We know many of you are following the events related to the passage of anti-LGBT ballot measures in Arizona, Arkansas, California and Florida. In an effort compile what is happening around the country as well as provide the latest information please bookmark this page and check back regularly.
What You Can Do
• Read this letter to the community from the leaders of the organizations involved in the No on 8 effort.
• How to Start a Conversation on LGBT Equality
- Use the Task Force’s time-tested tools of engagement
- Consider the long tradition of nonviolent resistance in social justice movements and develop your ability to resist
• Tell Your Story
- Move beyond your comfort zone &mdahs; tell someone about your life and the impact of anti-LGBT ballot measures.
- Enlist new allies — think about how your story can be a connector to allies. What challenges do you have in common? What goals can you work on in your community together?
- Ask friends who are getting married to talk about marriage equality at their weddings.
- Ask friends to put a gift to the Task Force or another advocacy group in their marriage registry.
• Talk to People of Faith
- Seek out pro-LGBT religious allies. Invite them to be part of your educational forums, rallies and other events. For a list of welcoming congregations, visit WelcomingResources.org.
- It’s more powerful to have religious LGBT people engage religious anti-LGBT people.
- Remember that many, many LGBT folks are spiritual and/or religious and that at the core of every spiritual tradition is a call for love and justice.
- Religion is not the enemy to our struggle and we all deserve to worship and pray if we so choose.
- If you are a religious LGBT person or ally, start a conversation!

• Debunk myths about race and supporters of LGBT equality
- African Americans did not “lose” California.
- Black same-sex and Latino same-sex couples bear economic burdens that are worsened by anti-marriage ballot measures.
• Join the January 10 state-based rallies

- Reach out to your member of Congress
- Support your statewide LGBT group!
• Join the Day without a Gay, gay day of absence on December 10.
What to do instead of going to work:
- Come out to someone new.
- Tell a coworker or friend how the Nov. 4 ballot measure votes have affected you and your family.
- Go see the new movie about Harvey Milk with a friend and think about how change happens and your part in it.
• Support companies that opposed Prop. 8 (No on 8).
• DON'T support companies that supported Prop. 8 (Yes on 8).
