Helping Haiti
By Task Force staff, January 14, 11:03 amTask Force Executive Director Rea Carey on the need to help the people of Haiti after the recent devastating earthquake:
“There have been discussions about the LGBT community setting up some sort of fund for Haiti through one of our organizations. We have assessed this option and it is the Task force's position that we, as a community, as a people, can show our greatest compassion to the people of Haiti by donating immediately and directly to those agencies on the ground or on their way to provide water, food and medical care. It is our moral duty to give assistance to all of the people of Haiti — they are our fellow humans in need and we should not create any barriers to immediate assistance. "We understand the urgency to show the world what a kind, giving and compassionate people we are. Disasters of this sort transcend any of our identities, with the one exception that we are all human. "We strongly encourage those LGBT people who have the capacity to do so, to give directly to the Red Cross search and rescue efforts, or any other agency providing immediate and life-saving assistance. Click here or text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 via phone. "This is not the time to build lists, to create barriers or to delay one dollar for even a day.”Want to share your thoughts about this blog entry?
