TJ Michels

TJ Michels is the communications director for Change to Win. Michels has been an outspoken advocate for LGBT and labor issues first as a journalist and later as a communications strategist. Her activism on behalf of workers and the queer community here at home has led to invitations from NGOs in Israel and Zimbabwe. After working on the campaign to defeat the anti-gay No on Knight initiative in California, she moved to Washington, D.C., and directed media relations for the nation’s fastest-growing union, the Service Employees International Union. In 2007, Michels returned to the west coast to head up communications for a nationwide labor-environmental campaign to enact progressive green-growth policies at our seaports that will both reduce pollution and lift workers out of poverty. She lives with her partner of six years in Long Beach.
