Short Description
The Census identified 600,000 same-sex households in the United States. With this data we can more forcefully advocate for the policies that will bring about equality for our families.
Summary
The 2000 Census shows us:
- Same-sex couples live in more than 99 percent of all U.S. counties.
- There are 600,000 same-sex households.
- By documenting these households, we can better advocate for and protect our families.
With right-wing politicians pushing marriage initiatives and blaming unmarried and single-parent families for a wide range of social ills, it is crucial that we document the many stable and healthy same-sex couples and families that exist in the United States.
